Exotic Pet &
Wildlife Veterinarian

Chadwell Animal Hospital proudly welcomes pets of all species. From colorful parrots to curious chameleons, we provide experienced veterinary care for birds, reptiles, pocket pets, and a wide variety of local Harford County wildlife.

We’re one of the few animal hospitals in the region that sees such a diverse range of species, and we’re proud to be a trusted resource for exotic pet owners and wildlife rescuers alike.

What to Expect During Your Exotic Pet Visit

Exotic animals require specialized knowledge and species-specific care. During your pet’s visit, we’ll conduct a thorough exam tailored to their anatomy and behavior, and discuss their diet, habitat, and lifestyle to help identify any health or husbandry concerns. Because exotic pets often mask signs of illness, regular checkups are essential for early detection. If your exotic pet needs diagnostics, surgery, dental care, or other medical treatment, we’re fully equipped to provide it right here in our hospital. We also offer guidance on enrichment, environmental setup, and nutrition to help your pet live a healthy, stress-free life at home. We strive to make every visit as calm and safe as possible, especially for prey species and highly sensitive animals.

Exotic Species We See

Birds

From pet parrots to wild songbirds and birds of prey, we care for avian patients of all sizes. We provide exams, diagnostics, beak trims, wing care, and treatment for injuries or illness.

Reptiles

We treat all types of reptiles, including turtles, tortoises, snakes, iguanas, bearded dragons, and chameleons. Reptiles are highly sensitive to environment and nutrition, so we tailor every visit to their unique physiology.

Pocket Pets & Small Mammals

We regularly care for guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, chinchillas, sugar gliders, and other small mammals. Services include routine exams, dental care, spays and neuters, mass removals, and more.

FAQs

Because exotic pets often hide signs of illness, subtle changes like reduced appetite, weight loss, hiding, lethargy, or changes in stool can indicate something is wrong. If you notice any changes, please call us to schedule an appointment.

Yes. Proper housing, diet, and enrichment are key. We’re happy to provide husbandry consultations to help you create the healthiest possible environment for your unique companion.
